Universal Disaster Recovery Foundation
(U-DIREF)

...building resilience in vulnerability

It is a Nigeria-based Non-Governmental Organisation registered to provide humanitarian services to victims of disasters through life-saving support initiatives. It was registered in 2019 with the aim of rekindling the hope of communities affected by disasters through behavioural change programmes based on practicable morally and culturally sound standards, while enhancing resilience against poverty-generating factors within communities.

Provides supports to targeted vulnerable populations and communities in an effort to heal and rebuild social structures

Who We Are?

We strongly believe and uphold the principles of "DO NO HARM" as we value human lives and their individual contributions to their respective communities while building respectful partnerships at all levels.

Our Services

U-DIREF provides life-saving support services in the shelter, camp management, protection, environment, food, nutrition, logistics, water, sanitation, and hygiene while enhancing resilience through livelihood recovery programmes in post-crisis and transition settings.
Protection
U-DIREF ensures fair protection processes and documentation while targeting assistance to people with specific needs and promoting peaceful coexistence between the populations of concern (PoCs) and local communities.
Food security and livelihoods
The organisation focuses on improving the nutritional well-being of uprooted people, especially under-5 yrs, lactating or breast-feeding mothers, and pregnant women. We have achieved a lot in this area due to our policy of avoiding gaps during food distribution and the prevention of large segments of the PoCs from remaining vulnerable.
Community empowerment and self-reliance
U-DIREF contribute to the economic self-reliance of persons of concern by facilitating their access to self-employment opportunities. This is possible through capacity building and asset strengthening where life skills, including all forms of improved farming methods, trade, and craft, are opened for learning.
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
U-DIREF supports Camp populations to access safe potable and hygienic water by constructing and or maintaining water supply and sanitation systems.
Education and Health
We ensure optimal access to education by providing pre-school and primary education services, maintaining school infrastructures, and supporting catch-up classes and vocational training for the camp populations.
Camp Coordination and Camp Management
Our camp management practices encourage partnership among all stakeholders towards creating a harmonious environment for service delivery and up-take.
Psycho-social Services
Psycho-social support is an integral part of U-DIREF’s emergency response. The organisation provides supports to targeted vulnerable populations and communities in an effort to heal and rebuild social structures after an emergency or a critical event.
Health
We optimise the health status of the populations by ensuring unhindered access to primary healthcare and facilitating access to secondary and tertiary healthcare services.
Environment and Access to Energy
U-DIREF promotes environment-friendly practices and encourages communities’ access to domestic energy. This includes awareness-raising sessions on environmental protection, and use of improved stoves and renewable energy practices.

Ensure optimal access to education by providing pre-school and primary education services, maintaining school infrastructures, and supporting catch-up classes and vocational training for the camp populations.
